Why should we read and analyze scientific literature? |
In science, we are concerned with how to solve problems and answer questions. Researchers regularly engage in scientific exploration to solve our problems and find answers to the most difficult questions we face. While we cannot perform the same types of research in our classes here, we can read about the techniques that are used and become familiar with the skills necessary to do scientific research.
In addition, while science textbooks contain a great deal of information, they rarely discuss real-world applications and current research. By reading and analyzing scientific literature, not only are you gaining an understanding of the impact of science in our world, but you are developing critical thinking skills, gaining additional knowledge of scientific facts, and widening your view of science.
